About This Cat
Born ~2011, F, Silver Egyptian Mau

Silver Egyptian Maus are very rare, they are the rarest Mau color. Egypt was left in a shelter. “Stray Over the Counter”  Who left this exquisite girl there?  And why?

Egypt was not in great shape. She was thin, her coat was poor, she had a cold, an ear infection, a wound on her neck, a painful tooth. We could see she had worn a collar.  I imagine her in a leather collar with a light green semi precious stone. She is a queen. Her ear, teeth, and wound are all fixed.  We are giving her DHA to help her rough coat and she is getting the best quality food and supplements to bring her weight up. Her head still tilts just a little from her eat infection but that should go entirely away. Her ear drum was fine.

Egypt is such an elegant kitty, with her long legs and body. She is like a willowy dancer.

You can tell a cat is an Egyptian Mau by looking at his or her spots. Unlike other spotted cats a Mau has the color of a spot only on the tips of her hair, not all the way down to the skin. Brush your hand backwards against her coat and the spots disappear. Mau means “cat” in Egyptian. These are the only breed with spots who have their spots naturally, their spots were not carefully, genetically bred. They are a very old, old breed.  And a very healthy breed.

What saved Egypt’s life was her loving nature. She has such a loving heart and fairly leaps into your hand, arching her back ,and lifting  her front feet off the floor to passionately press her head up into your hand. The shelter seeing her euthanasia date approaching sent me a little video showing her sweet, affectionate nature. This was to offset her numerous medical problems which scared rescues away. I saw her blood panel was good given that she was thin and dehydrated. Was she lost or left outside? Did her owner die and she was put out?  She looked like she had been outside. Maus are fiercely loyal cats. They bond very tightly to their humans. She would not wander away. There are not even many Silver Maus available to purchase. What happened? Where did this very special cat come from?

We will never know. We do know she has had a hard time recently.  And we know she is a loving, gorgeous girl. She is growing shinier and sleeker. Soon we will bathe her.  She is gaining weight every week perhaps because her painful  tooth is out. She likes to eat. A few more months of quality food will see her at her proper weight. I could wait to post her but I am so excited about her I just wanted to get her photo’s out there. Some family will be so lucky to have her in their home.

Egypt eats wet and dry food and is litter box perfect.

Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
