About Tommy
This little guy was brought to a shelter by his family who signed a request for euthanasia. They said by way of explanation that “when he sneezed he pooped”. I kid you not. I do not make these things up. A shelter worker had emailed me about this boy and the need for him to be out immediately, literally that night. I was fortunate to see the email, I was far away in So Cal. Fortunately a friend at another rescue, Nine Lives, was able to get this kitty out for me and keep him for a few days until I could get back and pick him up.
I expected him to be an ill cat who sneezed hard and had terrible diarrhea. Neither was true. He had a congested left nostril and beautiful Lincoln Log feces. We did a blood panel at the vet and he checked out fine. The vet thought he was 5 years old, his teeth were good. His coat was dry and brittle which we fixed with healthy food and supplements and brushing. He blossomed under our attention. I have no idea why his family left him as they did at the shelter. Perhaps they had misfortunes or health issues and felt they had to let him go and thought euthanasia would be kinder, or something. (aargh)
Like a typical Burmese he is a good natured, gentle, and playful cat who loves being with humans. Burmese are thought of as being “a puppy-like breed” and can often be taught to play fetch and other interactive games with their humans. They often will follow you from room to room and help run your home. They do not do well left alone all day, they need their human’s company. They like to cuddle and snuggle and watch TV with their family. Tommy, as is typical of his breed and his part Siamese heritage, has a little sweet voice which he uses especially when it is dinner time.
Tommy is a solid little cat. He weighs 8 pounds. American Burmese are stockier with a broader head, round big eyes and a flatter muzzle than British Burmese which with their longer legs show more of their Siamese heritage. Tommy has soft even length plush fur. You can’t miss his round headlight eyes in his photos.
This boy needs a devoted family who will give him lots of companionship and keep him safe. Respectful children would be fine. He seems to be friendly to non aggressive cats. I don’t know how he is with dogs. He will make some person or family a great companion.
Tommy eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
His foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
Contact Harriet at (831) 336-2983 or email: harrietkitty@comcast.net if you have questions, or send an Adoption Application. If you are unable to reach Harriet by phone or email, email us at Info@purebredsplus.org.
NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
