About The Golden Girl
Adopted by Ken
5 Year Old, F, Golden Tortie Maine Coon
Look how golden this kitty is! How could I not call her The Golden Girl? She was owner surrendered to a shelter and her name was listed as Pepper which doesn’t seem to suit her. She is a sweet girl who came in very depressed from being left in the shelter. She curled up in a little ball and tried to pretend she was not here. She was polite but her disinterest in life was very clear. We don’t know why her owner dropped her off but it is likely she was much more loyal to her family than they were to her. Poor thing. She was so stricken.
We were patient with her, feeding her, sending love, giving her space and time. It took her two months to decide to relate to humans again and enjoy herself. She is actually a VERY loving kitty now that she has opened up to us. You can feel her passionate heart as she pushes her head hard into your hand when you pet her. You can scratch her at the base of her tail and she will raise her hind end in pleasure. If you stroke her tail she does not like it and is very protective of it. Someone has been pulling it.
I would say she is about 80% back from her blues. You can still see some sadness in her eyes. Her new family must want to bring her back to her rightful joy at being a cat. If you give her some more time to unfold into your home, she will give you her loyal, loving heart. Golden is playful and will bat at a feather. She eats well. She is a very good-hearted kitty. Her coat is lush and soft. Her golden and brown coat sets off her green eyes perfectly. She is a striking girl.
She will flourish in a loving home. I would suggest for her a home with no children – someone has been pulling her tail and it is likely she has unhappy memories of children. She would be happy to be an only cat though a friendly quiet cat would probably be all right. I have no idea how she is with dogs. She can still be startled at a loud sound and is fearful. She needs six months of stable, solid love to relax fully.
The Golden Girl eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
