About Squeak

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat through our Owner Placement Program.  We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of this cat.  It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this.

Squeak is NOT in a Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue foster home, but residing with his current owner in Fair Oaks. Adoption fee applies. Find out more about Owner Placement Cats.

Squeak is a spectacular 5 yr old purebred Norwegian Forest Cat, born in Canada and acquired as a kitten by a Senior couple in California. He was recently re-homed due to his former owner’s serious health issues. His new family’s existing cat is reluctant to accept Squeak and he is responding in kind with territorial hissing and threatening challenges. Although there has been no direct contact between them, this has become too stressful for the cats and people alike. It is for this reason that Squeak is available for adoption as soon as possible .

The Norwegian Forest Cat, which is a natural breed (meaning it was not created by humans crossing any other cat breeds) tends to be healthy, with an impressive lifespan up to 20 years. They are affectionately known to many pet owners as “Wegies” (pronounced “wee-gees”). Also known as skogkatt (meaning “forest cat”) in Norway, where the breed is the country’s official feline. This cat breed has a rich history dating back to the time of the Vikings.

This gorgeous robust boy is very healthy weighing in at 14.5 lbs, the average for Norwegian Forest Cat males. He has a long dense Norwegian double coat with an abundant ruff of fur around his neck and plumed tail, which will require weekly combing. Potential pet parents should be prepared to take on his grooming needs.

Wegies are extremely intelligent, resourceful, and mild-mannered, and at the same time playful and interactive. These cats are also known for being adaptable and sociable, although they tend to be less of a “lap cat” than other breeds. Wegies are known to be very loyal. They adjust well to a home environment, making them good indoor pets.

Squeak is super affectionate, shy at first, then, once he’s comfortable, he becomes the love bug he is meant to be, and will rub up against people to be petted. He likes being scratched and petted, but being picked up? Not so much. He’s a big boy so feeling fully supported will help him gain confidence toward being picked up.

Squeak enjoys his laser light toys, string toys and true to his breed, is very playful. He likes his scratching pad and has no bad habits. He is expected to have moderate to high exercise requirements. A tall sturdy cat tree is advisable because this breed loves to climb and perch to survey their domain. Squeak will do best as an indoor only cat in a home where there are no small children or other pets and someone is present most of the time.

This is a cat born to be treasured !

Squeak is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, eats dry food, and is litterbox perfect.

He currently lives with his owner in Fair Oaks.

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pet and create an ideal forever home.
