About Luke Catwalker

Watch Luke Play!

August 8, 2022: Luke had his surgery on 8/2/22.

The Force is strong in Luke CatWalker!

The surgery was a great success! Luke spent the night in the hospital to allow the surgeon the ability to check him before getting the all-clear to go home.

Luke was home on August 3rd and was confined in a pen to keep him from moving around to much. He also had the cone of shame in place to prevent him from licking or possibly tearing out his sutures. On August 4th Luke had a bit of swelling and of course, bruising. He is on continuous medication to control the pain. On August 5th Luke’s swelling and bruising is starting to go down. He really wants to move around more! His pain medication is only at night now as well!

Luke hates being confined but we need to restrict any major movement for a minimum of 1 week to allow it time to heal. All Luke wants to do is get lots of love and cuddles at this point in time. His ability to move around is already showing so much improvement now that his deformed back leg is gone.

Every day he continues to show improvement. We expect him to make a speedy and complete recovery!

July 10, 2022: Luke has to wait a few weeks before his surgery.

Luke went in for his pre-operative exam and blood work. The vet wants to wait for a few weeks so he can put on a few more pounds. His surgery is scheduled for the first part of August. More updates to come after his surgery!

Original Post: Luke was rescued from a hoarding situation with several of his siblings. Once he arrived we discovered that Luke has a birth deformity affecting his back left leg. He was born with his foot facing backward from the ankle down. Luke’s previous owner reluctantly surrendered him, knowing it was the only way for Luke and his siblings to get the care they so desperately needed.

Just as Luke Skywalker’s name implies, Luke is fearless and brave beyond measure. He doesn’t let his deformity slow him down in the slightest bit. In fact, I am not sure that he realizes there is anything different about him! He runs, plays and wrestles with all of his siblings like any other kitten would! This little furball has the very sweetest personality. He loves affection and will put his head under your hand if you try and stop petting him before he has had enough!

The veterinarian who examined Luke determined that he will have severe hip and back issues as he gets older because of the way he compensates for his “wonky” foot. When Luke walks on any type of hard surface his foot can slide out from underneath him causing him to do the splits. Since walking on surfaces without enough traction can cause issues Luke is only allowed to walk and play on carpets to reduce the chance of any injuries. Our trusted veterinarian says that the best course of action would be to amputate the deformed leg to force him to use his three good legs as he grows up.
