About Bubba

Adopted by Katy

Bubba came to us in May 2022.  He was a hot mess! This poor boy had abscesses and wounds full of maggots!  His hind legs were raw from being confined to a small space. He was covered in his own feces and urine. His fur was so tightly matted that we could not brush him without causing him pain!  His skin was red and inflamed, and his fur was stuck to his skin with multiple scabs present. Through all this, the treatment and cleaning Bubba was the sweetest, most loving and patient cat you could ever imagine. He knew he was now safe and someone really did care about him!

We worked through all the issues and thought he would be ready for a loving home. He was looking so much better and was even more loving! However, Bubba was still limping and he would only walk a few feet and then lay down. We brought him to a vet to see if we could figure out what was going on. After some poking and prodding of his back feet….the vet said that Bubba was declawed at a young age, possibly when he was neutered, by the Roscoe Clipper Amputation, leaving him with amputated toes.  A declaw is basically an amputation of the first bone joint and the nail on each toe and foot. Can you imagine doing this to a very young cat? This was a failed effort. His claws have grown back and are curling and penetrating the pads of his feet making it difficult for him to walk. This boy has not had it easy that’s for sure!

Bubba deserves to live a long and happy life with lots of love. To accomplish this he must have surgery on his back feet to correct the issues from the failed declaw. Our vet will go in and attempt to clean up the declaw and get better closure on his toes to make him more comfortable. After the surgery, it will be 3-6 months before we know whether he has improved and reduced the pain he is experiencing. We will then evaluate his front feet to determine if it is needed there as well. We have to do everything we can for this very special boy.

There is still a difficult road ahead for Bubba to get healthy and be ready for a forever home that will cherish and love him forever. You can make a huge impact on this boy’s future!  We know it will take lots of time, love, and persistence but we are determined to give this boy the happy, healthy life he deserves!  The cost of the surgery and medication is ~$1000.
