One Year-Old, F, Brown Tabby American Shorthair
Smooshie is tiny. The photos don’t show her small size- she is just under 5 pounds. The shelter she came from suggested she was two years old. Her teeth are so new and white we wonder if she isn’t an older kitten. She is about the size of a six month old kitten. She is a darling.
Smooshie wants affection all the time. Pick her up and she starts purring. Pick her up with a camera in your hands and she starts wiggling; she is much too busy to pose for her photos. Smoosh is a confident girl, well-adjusted, and social friendly with other cats. ( Currently she is happy to coexist around them more than to cuddle with them). She may be a tiny thing but she is opinionated and not at all a push over. She has things she wants to do, places to go. things to explore. Exploring is her favorite activity right now. She wants the whole world.
We don’t really know her history. A shelter rescue coordinator called us and said I think you want this cat and of course she was entirely right. Everyone who sees her falls in love. Some family will be so lucky to have her company.
American Shorthairs descend from cats who came over on the ships (records show the Mayflower had several aboard for rat catching). These were working cats. They were bred to be strong, sturdy cats, healthy, affectionate and easy going, good mousers. The weight range of the normal American Shorthair female is 7 pounds to 12 pounds so Smoosh is either young and still growing or maybe naturally smaller than usual.
She is an absolute delight.
Smoosh eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
