About Silke

 Adopted by Tad and Kris

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is helping facilitate the adoption of this cat through our Owner Placement Program. We take no responsibility for the health and medical records of this cat. It is the responsibility of the owner and adopter to discuss this.

Silke is NOT in a Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue foster home but residing with her current owner in San Carlos. The adoption fee applies. Find out more about Owner Placement Cats.

Don’t laugh. Please, no clever jokes about having a bad hair day. Silke’s bent, curly, tattered, and peculiar hair is her glory and birthright. Most people have never seen a Selkirk Rex; they are a very rare new breed. Selkirk Rex kitties attract attention everywhere they go. This girl came from a breeder in Japan and lived in the States for three years. Her family needed to return to Japan and asked Purebreds if we could help find her a new home. Of course, we said yes.

Since then, she has been adopted into a multiple-cat household and is disgruntled toward one of the other cats.  We are seeking to place her either as an only cat or with a docile cat that is non-threatening and accepting toward other cats. She has lived with a Chihuahua and at least one child.

Silke especially loves jumping up high and watching the bird feeders outside. If she feels comfortable with you, she is very affectionate and will climb right on your lap and rub her head on your cheek. Selkirks are known for being patient, loving, and tolerant. Web articles describe them as placid and cuddly. Silke is very affectionate and enjoys people. I might add that they are so connected with their humans that they get lonely without them, which means they are not the right kitty for a family out of the house all day. Selke also has a slightly regal attitude which shows up mostly when the photographer is trying to get a good picture. “I am beautiful, and I know it !” Of course, with their athletic bodies, Selkirks are super playful kitties, and Silke is no exception! She loves to play! Their looks and happy antics delight their families. They are generally good with children and also with other non-aggressive dogs. They are known as a very healthy breed.

Some Selkirks have whiskers that curl. Silke hardly has any whiskers right now. As is true of Cornish and Devon Rexes, her coat, including her strange whiskers and eye brows, is constantly changing. Her curls are silky soft to touch. It is suggested that her coat be combed ( with a “greyhound comb” ), not brushed, in order not to disturb her curls. You can see Silke is a long-legged, slender, long-bodied kitty. She is only seven plus pounds. Yes, she bounces. People are attracted to the oddity of Selkirks funny coat, but it is their loving, cuddly nature that grabs and holds their hearts. This girl is an unusual treasure.

Silke is spayed, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect.

She currently lives with her owner in San Carlos.

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pets and create an ideal forever home.

If you believe you are the perfect adopter for Silke, please tell us why in the comments section of our Adoption Application, and contact Pam at cheemers@gmail.com or 541-290-8408. If you are unable to reach Pam, please email us at info@purebredsplus.org.

NOTE: We prefer families with children to bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
