About Redmond (and Rufus)

Adopted by Elizabeth and Ben

Redmond and Rufus MUST be adopted together. There are NO exceptions. See Rufus here.

When Redmond, aka Red, was about a month old, someone grabbed him out in the world. Suddenly, he was separated from his siblings and his mom’s milk bar. The shelter couldn’t keep him since his ability to eat human-made cat food suddenly was in doubt. He had to go to the rescue immediately. Or else. Someone who knew I loved the red ones, especially those with little white feet, asked if I could take him. I got out my dusty rabbit cage.

Red had a great eagerness for life and thrived. He slept in my arms. I began to want a companion for him to play with. Another shelter had a reddish kitten who had been abandoned outside their door. This rural shelter was a simple, small building in a pure dirt field no plants. Someone arriving for work saw him running away. She put out a trap and caught him easily -it was the only hiding place. Someone had loved him because he relaxed completely in her hands.

Rufus still does love the feeling of being held. He is warm and loving, a gentle, mellow boy. Little Redmond, with his exuberant energy, jumped right on top of him, front legs outspread, the first time he saw him. Rufus, being maybe three weeks older, calmly extended a long front leg and held him off. It was so funny. We gave them play dates. These two very different kittens have now become fast friends. It is great fun to watch them play.

I think Rufus will always be the biggest. He has that Maine Coon large body heritage. He just grows more and more longhaired, beautiful and big. He is such a cuddly lover.

Red, by contrast, is an entertainer as he explores everything, plays with everything, and gets into everything. He’s a fearless and gutsy comedian, luring Rufus into his games. When I hold him, he cuddles right into my hands, but he is shyer with people he doesn’t know. He has the sweetness red tabbies are known for. That will remain when his kitten behaviors lessen. The rich color of his red stripes and spots has deepened as he has grown, accentuating the brightness of his white feet.

These two red kittens, so different and also so similar, are a great pair of entertaining companions. They have never been around dogs. Red would invite them to play, I am sure. These two are cat-friendly. Rufus and Red would be good family cats with respectful older children, or they would be great for a single person or a couple who would love their company as the heart of their home. They are great, happy, sweet fun.

Rufus and Red eat wet and dry food and are litterbox-perfect.

Redmond is neutered, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, and microchipped.

He is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.

Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pets and create an ideal forever home.

If you believe you are the perfect adopter for Redmond (and Rufus), please tell us why in the comments section of our Adoption Application, and contact Harriet at harrietluvskitties@yahoo.com. If you are unable to reach Harriet, please email us at info@purebredsplus.org.

NOTE: We prefer families with children to bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
