About Pink
Adopted by Katie, Brian, Ava and Oliver
PINK was dropped at a shelter in San Diego with pink hair dye on her back. Most shelters in So Cal are closed due to COVID. At PINK’s shelter they take in cats but do no adoptions, all cats including young, beautiful, healthy cats have to be “pulled” by legal rescues by Friday noon or they are immediately euthanized. This makes cat-loving rescuers absolutely crazy. I agreed to help one rescuer by taking this girl into foster.
At first, she seemed fine. Friendly, cuddly, healthy. Then she lost weight and seemed unthrifty. A blood panel was taken and then another. Finally, alarmed, we took her to the Emergency Vet where fortunately the wonderful doctor there knew exactly what was wrong with her. She had a very, very rare congenital difficulty assimilating calcium in her body.
PINK is now on “Tums,” a human calcium tablet. A quarter of one once a day is crushed and added to her food (which she eats right away). Every other day she easily takes a small capsule of a man-made Vitamin D called Calcitriol. This helps her body assimilate the calcium. We took her to be checked at intervals to make sure we had the right dosage for her and she is perfect. PINK will stay on Tums and Calcitriol forever and live a long, normal life. Her adopter’s vet may want to test her calcium level once or twice a year. A 1000 tablet Tums bottle costs about $3.50 and that would last her 4000 days! The Calcitriol costs, list price, $45 for two months’ worth (30).
That is her fairly dramatic history which definitely used up two of her nine lives. Now PINK is overflowing with all the boundless energy of a kitten. She loves cuddles and attention. We got her in early July and now that she’s a bit older she is growing outrageously beautiful, as her coat and color points come in. Color pointed cats like Siamese and Ragdolls start out beige and develop the color on their faces, ears, tails, and feet as they mature. She is transforming so quickly. Magic! Ragdolls, like Maine Coons, keep growing into their third year.
PINK’s perfect home would be one with lots of activity. She is full of kitten energy to run around and play. She is very much a family cat and a family with gentle children over three feet tall would be great for her. She will climb on the lap of a stranger and charm him or her utterly. I don’t know how she is with dogs but she might just love to play with them. She is also friendly to kitties. She is an absolute delight.
PINK is spayed, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect.
She is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
