About Patrick O’Malley
Adopted By Debbie & Mike
The shelter photo was in black and white but it said red and white and we went running to bring this boy into foster. Everyone seems to know I love the big boy red and white kitties. This beautiful boy has such saturated red coloring and such a long, long body he was more beautiful than we expected. We smiled all the way home.
Patrick arrived dirty, he had clearly been outside, and he was mildly thin. He needed a bath to make his white snowy fur white again. He needed a worming, vaccines, combo test, microchip. He also needed a dental which we thought might explain his thinness. However, after his dental we saw he was not gaining weight the way we expected so we checked his thyroid level. As is true of many cats, the results came in a bit high showing he was producing too much of his thyroid hormone so we put him on thyroid medication to lower it. Thyroid pills are easy to give, they are tiny and dissolve in a couple drops of water which can be fed mixed in a teaspoon of wet food. He gained a pound and a half in 10 days and looks great.
Despite his impressive stature Patrick O’Malley is not a macho cat. He is a sweet, non confrontational cat. Middle aged red cats are known for being mellow, couch potatoes, sweet cuddlers. He wants quiet, loving attention from humans in a happy, peaceful home. Perhaps his life outside has been difficult, he doesn’t seem to want to go out. He would be a great companion for someone who longs for the company of a loving, well behaved cat. Patrick will literally follow you from room to room, help you with your chores, and watch late night movies by your side. I don’t know how he is with dogs. He is fine with non aggressive, lazy cats and would also be fine as an only cat. Middle aged children would be ok with him but you still may find him hanging out in an upstairs, quiet bedroom for his afternoon nap. Of course he loves to lie in a sunny window watching the birds. Someone will be so lucky to have his company.
Patrick eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect. No fish flavors please.
Patrick O’Malley is fostered in Santa Cruz.
