About Niko
Born ~2014, M, Black Devon Rex
Niko and his consort Chica were purchased from a Virginia breeder to be a breeding pair. After finding out how much work it is to have a litter of kittens their owner decided to have no more and got them fixed. Now due to health reasons she has asked Purebreds to find them a home.
Well of course we said YES!!!! And what fun these odd little kitties are. The Devon Breed originated from a natural gene mutation in a cat in Devon, England around 1960. These cats are not related to Cornish or German Rexes, they are their own special little creatures. Devons have a super soft, wavy coat with almost no guard hairs, almost no whiskers, and huge rounded ears on a wide face. Although they are small cats they have large toes and long legs. Some call them “pixie cats” with their upturned noses. Others call them “alien cats” they can look so odd. They are smart, playful and mischievous.
Personally I find it hard to stop looking at them, they are so fascinating. I have not had them long but both come forward soliciting attention. Chica knows her name and will immediately whip her head around to see who is calling her. Niko is a sweet boy whose fur feels and looks like crushed velvet. He just wants to be cuddled. They like to sleep on high shelves and will occasionally share a basket. Mostly they sleep apart and their relationship is sort of on again- off again as their very individual personalities mesh and clash amicably. This breed loves company- human , cat , dog and as the web says “bird, ferret or rabbit”. They lived very happily with a Borsoi dog.
These kitties need a human family with lots of time to spend with them. They will follow you around and try to help you with all your chores. That includes helping you get all the food off your plate (and into their mouths) They love all food and can easily grow fat. They like physical contact with their humans and often will choose the warmth of your neck for a sleeping spot.
Some family will be so lucky to have the company of these two characters.
Niko and Chica eat wet and dry food and are litterbox perfect.
Their foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
