About Pam From Northern California
Hi, I’m Pam from El Dorado Hills, California. Animals have always been a cherished part of my life. For more than 50 wonderful years of marriage, my husband and I have shared our home and hearts with beloved kitties and dogs who brought us endless joy, unconditional love, and, yes, moments of deep sadness when we had to say goodbye. These experiences deepened our passion for animal welfare and inspired us to give back.
Tell Us a Little Bit About Yourself.
For us, our furry companions are our family. As we’ve grown older, we’ve focused on adopting pets with special needs, offering them love, care, and a safe place to thrive. There’s something incredibly rewarding about providing for these unique animals. Take Beanie, for example—a sweet 12-year-old Tonkinese with an outsized personality. She has arthritis and thyroid issues that require medication, but she fills our lives with so much happiness.
Then there’s Princess, who occasionally struggles with stress-related accidents. We’ve adapted our home to meet her needs and shower her with affection, knowing it makes her feel like the treasured family member she is. And of course, there’s Remy, our special boy with glaucoma. His previous family had to give him up after a landslide left them unable to provide the care he needed. Now, he’s part of our family, bringing light and healing to our hearts after the loss of our beloved Cori to lymphoma.
Why did you decide to volunteer with PPCR?
Kitties (and dogs) have been cherished family members for the 50-plus years that my husband and I have been married. Our furry family members bring us so much joy, so much love, and, indeed, pain when they are ill or pass away from illness and/or old age. Over the years, our passion for our fur family members only grew. We realized that we had deep passion for animal welfare and we wanted to give back. Compassion was turned into action when we became volunteers for Purebreds Plus.
Volunteering with Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue (PPCR) has been our way of turning compassion into action—and it’s been about seven or eight years now!
We chose PPCR because of its commitment to ethics, strong leadership, and its incredible team of dedicated volunteers. Along the way, we’ve built lasting friendships and found a supportive, like-minded community. Every task, no matter how big or small, brings immense satisfaction—knowing that I’m honoring the furry family members who have given us so much love and joy.
What’s something new you’ve learned from volunteering with PPCR?
Volunteering with PPCR isn’t just about helping animals—it’s also about finding where your skills can make the biggest difference. While fostering kitties would tug too hard at my heartstrings (I’d never want to give them up!), I’ve found my niche supporting the rescue through tasks like reference checking and posting and updating cats and kittens posted to our website! It’s amazing to see how every volunteer’s unique talents come together to support this incredible mission.
