About Laurel from Sacramento Valley
Hi, I’m Laurel! Originally from Eugene, Oregon, I graduated from Oregon State University and moved to Davis in 1978. I grew up in a family where cats were beloved members, including our Siamese named Jade and a playful Scottish Fold named Hoover. My mother had a special heart for strays, and we welcomed every lost kitty that found its way to our door. Now, I share my home with my husband, Jim, and our five cherished cats. After over 30 years in mortgage banking, I retired in 2010, and now I spend my days quilting, gardening, and visiting the Oregon Coast to see my twin sons—one of whom lives in Corvallis, Oregon.
My Role at PPCR
As PPCR’s Treasurer and Kitten Coordinator, I help with the financial side of our operations and manage our kitten fostering efforts.
Why I Chose PPCR
In 2007, after we said goodbye to our beloved Siamese, Kimi, I hoped to adopt another Siamese and reached out to Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue. While they didn’t have a Siamese available, they asked if I’d be willing to foster a Bengal cat named Sahara. Sahara found a home with my mother, but that experience opened the door to a whole new world of cat rescue for me. Since then, rescue work has filled my heart in ways I never imagined.

Each cat brings unique challenges—whether it’s building trust, managing medical care, or simply helping them feel safe. There’s nothing more rewarding than guiding these beautiful cats toward their forever homes. It’s not always easy, but every success story, every purr and playful moment, makes it all worthwhile.
How My Work Reflects This Theme
In fostering, every act of care, from bottle-feeding tiny kittens to offering a safe space for an adult cat with special needs, matters. Each foster has unique talents and abilities to share, and it takes all of us working together to make a difference, one life at a time. Each small act is a step toward giving these cats a second chance, and I feel honored to be part of it.
