About Mackenzie
Adopted by Tea and Pho
Born 6/19, F, White Mitted Tuxedo Domestic Shorthair
This little girl just wants to follow you around. She is so cute with her tail straight up. If she knows you she just wants to be held in your lap forever. If she doesn’t yet know you she will probably be shy and uncertain. If you have read our kitten postings you may have noticed most of the kittens we take in have had difficult beginnings That is the story here.
As I understand it from the shelter she was spayed when she weighed 1.25 pounds. This is very, very young. Unlike neutering , spaying is a fairly invasive operation. She was microchipped, vaccinated, wormed and adopted to a family with children who names her Miss Whiskers. All this is a great deal of stress for a 5 week old baby kitten all alone, away from her mom and siblings. Her new family returned her after two days saying she had bitten someone and they requested euthanasia for this “Bad Kitten”. Her paperwork says “VIctim grabbed kitten that was jumping out of box and was bit” She was alone and frightened and did the only thing she could and bit. I would have too.
However in a shelter “biting” is a bad stigma even if it is justified. The fact that Mackenzie’s paperwork said she was “hiding with dilated eyes’ added to the risk she was in. Two strikes is enough to get a kitten on the euthanasia list. She was put on the Needs Rescue List with a final date of 8/5. It was past that date and I decided I had to get this little baby girl out of there right away.
For the first week we had her she hid in the back corner of her room, she was so scared. Her life certainly had not been at all safe for her so far. Time heals and as Mackenzie grew in size, she grew in confidence. When we put her together with other kittens that helped her a lot. She slept in a bed full of warm kittens and she began to be a happy kitten with them. She got to know her human friends and fell in love with them too.
Mackenzie is now happy little playful girl. She has the most perfect little white goatee and tons of white whiskers. She loves to explore and play with everything she can find. With her humans friends she is so cuddly and just wants to be held all the time. Loud noises or new people can bring back her sense of fear but that is fading. She would like a safe peaceful home with no scary challenges. It would probably be best to have no young children and no bouncy dogs. An old sweet sleepy Golden Retriever, for example, would probably be fine. Or a respectful, loving 16 yr old girl. Or a gentle welcoming cat. Let’s make it easy for her. Mackenzie will continue to blossom and will grow in confidence and in love with her family. Do you have a safe warm lap for her to nestle into as you watch late night TV? What a loving companion she will be to her new family.
Mackenzie eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
Her foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
