Lionel aka Toes (& Cassidy)

Lionel is a perfectly appropriate name for a Red Tabby Coon boy but we all quickly ended up calling him Toes. He has 6 toes on each of his four paws. Back paws usually have four toes so six looks, and is, huge. The six on his front feet look huge also. What fun this is . His toes work normally and we are able to trim his nails with no problem( it just takes a little longer than normal.) He has beautiful saturated red fur and I particularly like how the color of his unusual red gold eyes matches his fur. He is a soft, warm armful of kitty.

Toes is an unusually gentle kitten. He doesn’t have much macho in him. He is playful but also soulful.You can see it in his face. He arrived as a sit of sad and quiet kitten.He was very much a kind of baby cat if you know what I mean. We have no idea what his history is or how he ended up in a shelter . Glorious polydactyl red boys don’t tend to end up in shelters.Something hurt or saddened him. We found that his greatest pleasure at first was with other young cats. He would lie in a kitten pile with them. He was cooperative with humans and attentive to us but at his four month mark hanging out with kittens was his favorite pastime. Now that some time has passed he is not only bigger but more confident and outgoing. However his non competitive, gentle heart is still very apparent.

Toes has bonded with Cassidy who is a Grey and Cream Domestic Shorthair
two years older than him.( You can see Cassidy in the adult cat section of our site under Domestic Shorthairs ) Cassidy is also a very gentle, sweet hearted kitty who loves both humans and kitties. He is sort of an older brother for Toes and we have determined to send this pair home together. No exceptions for this and fair warning I will not respond to any who ask me to separate them. These two boys belong together and will live their lives together.

Cassidy and Toes need a home with loving humans who can offer them a stable, fairly quiet home. They might be fine with an older child or two. They may be fine with an equally gentle cat loving dog but I have not seen them around dogs. They would appreciate a human who would wiggle a feather and lead them on chases around the house. They may be gentle but they are still very playful, active, curious kitties.

Toes is loving to humans that he knows.He is a little shy of strangers and though he is good natured and cooperative with them he will show that he would rather be elsewhere. He does not particularly like to be picked up to have his picture taken. ( look at his expression below) He will come lie next to you but less often on top of you. Cassidy will accept and enjoy all manner of affection from you. Toes is still young and growing.

Toes eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
