I am called Leo. This is my story.
When I was a kitten a breeder sold me to a woman who had four young children. Against the advice of her vet, she had me declawed (by him) on all four of my feet. Also against his advice, she allowed me to go outside which I liked. Of course, it was totally unsafe for me since without my claws I could not climb to escape. And swiping with my ten front claws is my best protection, way better than my teeth. But I didn’t care. I was young and smart and quick and I liked getting away from all the children who thought I was a toy.
When I was about 2 yrs old my owner surrendered me to her vet’s office. A kind vet tech there took me into her home where she had a little Chihuahua who became my best friend. She also had a Border Collie who was okay. Life was good.
Then, 5 years later, her husband took a job far away and they could only have two pets in their new home. My mom’s husband chose the dogs. She and my Chihuahua friend drove me the four hours to Santa Cruz and suddenly here I am. It took me about two minutes to show my new foster mom how lucky she was to have such a good-natured, affectionate kitty! Everyone fell for me so quickly and they ran around trying to get photo’s that show the amazing glitter sparkle in my fur.
I had lived on dry cat food only (with occasional table scraps) and now I get wet food twice a day including some human food. I Love That!
My mom explained to Harriet that my front feet are sensitive, especially to jumping down from a height. I love climbing up but need a few steps, and levels, so I don’t jump too far down. Can you help me with that? If you want to know my wish list: I love adult humans and little dogs and don’t really like young children and definitely NOT other cats.
Harriet adds: “Declawing is actually the amputation of the last bone of each toe not just the removal of the “claw”. Cats walk on their toes. Missing those bones causes changes in how the cat can hold itself, sitting and walking. Leo can move about well and easily but if you look carefully you can see he sometimes bears weight behind his front toes probably because his toes are not always comfortable. This is not uncommon in declawed kitties.
This 10 lb cinnamon boy is long, agile and made of steel; with his fine bones he moves very gracefully. Leo is an exceptionally beautiful Bengal.
And he is the nicest, sweetest, smartest of cats. He’s an absolute treasure.
Leo is neutered, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect.
He is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
