First a word about her breed. The Chausie breed, established in 1995, traces some heritage to “Felis chaus”, a long legged jungle cat that lived along wet lands from Singapore to the Nile. Today’s Chausies are mostly many generations away from those original “wild” kitties.
Chausie’s are medium sized cats with long legs, muscular compact bodies, and ticked coats. The hair on a ticked coat has three distinct colors along the short hair shaft. They are known for their athleticism, their playfulness, their mischievous antics. They are social cats who definitely want attention when you come home. These are not sleep on the couch Persians who will wait til you come to snooze in front of the TV. These are intelligent, curious, determined little balls of energy. They are a life style choice. Do not choose a hybrid like Kelela unless you really want the involvement a relationship with her entails. If you love that kind of connection with a smart, loving, demanding athlete, nothing is more fun or rewarding. She will be very loyal and loving to her human.
As you can see from the photo’s below Kelela has many different expressions. She can look regal and wild. She can look silly. She can look cuddly. She is a complex, fascinating character and will definitely keep you entertained. And yes, she is very beautiful.
Kelela is friendly and good natured with strangers. It does not take her much time to become friends with someone. She will roll around on a lap luxuriating in the touch of someone she knows. One photo below taken soon after her spay surgery, shows her shaved tummy. You can also see her front legs were shaved a little for a catheter placement.Her coat will grow back.
Kelela has been very easy for her foster mom. She may be more of a handful when she has free run of her new home. She was a breeder’s cat and likely did not have all of life that she wanted. She has had kittens. At her spay she was found to have cysts in her ovaries so perhaps that was why she came to us. She is an absolute treasure for the right person and someone will be so very lucky to adopt her. I am looking for an experienced hybrid cat adopter.
Kelela is a social girl and does not want to be all alone all day. I don’t know how she is with dogs. She would probably be happy to rule over them. Middle aged kids would probably be fine with her. The danger there is that they would let her get out the front door. I don’t know that she would want to go out but if she took such a notion she is nothing if not fast. Please realize she is a VERY smart cat. Can you keep up with her?
Kelela eats high quality wet and dry grain free food and loves small raw chicken treats.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interest!
