Born in Russia, ~2017, F, Brown Tabby Maine Coon
No that wasn’t a typo she was, actually, born in Russia and she has a Russian microchip in her. A shelter asked Purebreds Plus to take into foster a group of Russian Maine Coons. (Of course we were quick to say YES!!) Katya was the one thought to be pregnant and unlike the others she arrived very shy, actually quite traumatized. After the first two months passed we regretfully had to acknowledge she was not pregnant. We continued to work to get her to relax in our company. What had happened to scare her so? We will never know. Katya has unfolded herself with us very nicely. She is still a bit skittish and is sometimes shy with strangers but she accepts and enjoys our petting her and carrying her about. She is a very good-hearted, nice girl who is in transition.
Maine Coons continue growing in size through their third year. They start out long bodied and slender and they grow wider as they reach their maturity. The shelter guessed she was a bit over a year old which means she is now about two. Katya still has a lot of growing to do. She also will grow more herself as she ages and gains confidence. She is now playful and curious which is a long way from the frightened quiet kitty she was when she arrived. Strangers still sometimes make her pull back but mostly she solicits attention and petting from those with whom she is friends.
What a treasure she will be for some lucky family. How fascinating to watch her personality show more and more as she grows into her quirky Maine Coon nature. Coons are known for being real characters, sometimes comedians, always fascinating family cats.
Katya is accepting of most cats though I doubt she will ever curl up with a cat and groom it. I don’t know how she is with dogs except she would be the boss. Older respectful children would probably be fine. As she is in this transition, I would wish for her a safe, quiet home in which to grow. Let’s make it easy for her.
Katya eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
