2018 Hidden Stars, Special Tails
About Hidden Stars of 2018
When you bring a cat into your life, you both begin a journey – a journey that will bring more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet it will also test your strength and courage. If you let it, the journey will teach you many things about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving its mark.
Being in rescue, we know that this is not the reality for many of the cats in the world. For the Holiday Season, we want to highlight a special group that deserve a little extra attention — older cats. Statistically older cats are less likely to be adopted and run the risk of living out their lives in a shelter or even being euthanized if they don’t get a home. In the majority of instances it really isn’t the fault of the cat for ending up in this terrifying situation.
At PPCR, we call these cats “Hidden Stars.” These cats might be older, no longer wanted, have a terminal illness, have some health issues or some sort of behavioral issue – to us it doesn’t matter. They have found themselves abandoned and PPCR has taken them in. In some cases we know the situation the cat is coming from but in many others we have little if any information about their prior lives. We still are willing to take on these poor souls.
When we take a cat into the PPCR fold, it’s all about giving them the vet care and comfort they need. The biggest gift we give them is love. Our goal is always to have them live out their life in a forever home. In some cases we consider the cat to be in hospice care due to the issues they may have. It takes a very special person to foster or potentially adopt some of these kitties. We do want to be very clear that it is not about giving up on them or them dying. We at PPCR provide this level of care to all cats that find their way to us – those that are not wanted or are a poor candidate for adoption – the reason is not important. It is the right thing to do.
This holiday season we will focus on older kitties or our “Hidden Stars.” We have some special kitties that want to speak up and tell you about how they ended up here at PPCR. We hope this will show you some of the effort, commitment, and love, that goes on “behind the curtains” for these cats.
And maybe, just maybe, you might be one of those special people that could open your heart and love one of these kitties and make their golden years truly golden.
Watch for the “Hidden Stars” Christmas Series, starting December 5.
