About Giovanni

Born ~ 2021, M, Snow Bengal/Lynx Point Siamese

Adoption fee $300

A big city shelter had an unexpected shortage of vet staff. Since Gio had been waiting so long  a kindly vet volunteered to neuter this boy  to get him ready for adoption. However, after that, the of stress of the situation seemed to really get to him. He stopped eating and hid under the newspaper in his cage, and he could not be put up for adoption. A shelter volunteer brought him to our attention, and we quickly said that yes we could take him.

When he arrived he was pettable and holdable but you could see in his his face how depressed he was. We put him in a room with a big window. After a few days of hiding, he climbed up into his loft. After a few more days he relaxed, and started showing us what a beautiful kitty he was. Giovanni is a very tender boy and a little lacking in confidence after what he went through. What a great transformation it has been to watch him go from a withdrawn, sad, boy to a happy, affectionate playmonster.

Bengals are crossbred with Lynx Point Siamese and this is how the resultant Snow Bengals get their blue eyes. If you look closely at Giovanni in the right light, you can see that he has ghost spots which show his Bengal heritage. Those spots often darken as the kitty matures. Snow Bengals are strikingly beautiful with their blue eyes, their lynx markings, their creamy colors, and their spots.

What kind of a home does Giovanni need? Initially, we thought it would be good for him to be the only cat in a solid, stable home. He clearly wants a deep bonded connection with his human.  I always say that adopting a Bengal is a lifestyle choice. His family needs to be willing to make changes in their life to accommodate their Bengal’s needs for affection, exercise, and entertainment. (This is not a sleep on the sofa Persian.) However, as we have been watching Giovanni’s curiosity about other cats grow, he seems to be showing an interest in playing with them. A household with the right companion cat might also be a good option for him. With his Bengal heritage, it is important that a companion cat for him matches his energy and his athletic prowess.

One proviso. Keeping Bengals from getting loose outside is a challenge to any Bengal owner. Any family that chooses the joy of living with these magnificent kitties must take on the challenge of out thinking them. They can open lever handle doors, some can open round door knobs. They are not a good choice for a family with young children who run in and out of the house . Their aptitude for escape is evidenced by their frequent appearance in shelters.

We have no idea how Giovanni would be with dogs, though we expect he would be in charge. If you have room in your home and your heart for Giovanni, you will find that he is a very loving, loyal, and entertaining companion.

He is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children to bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
