Born August 2009, F, British Medium Hair Mix
Fiona (aka Fi) is a petite, and oh so beautiful little cat with lynx-type points and a thick, lush fur coat that her vet just drools over whenever Fi goes to the vet. Two and a half years ago her current owner came upon a beautiful and very frightened cat in a bottom cage at her local pet food store. She instantly took Fi home, offering to foster her until a home could be found. Her story was that her owners had gotten her as a kitten, had her for seven years, then they got a dog. The dog terrified the cat who started to urinate in inappropriate places, and they surrendered the cat to the local shelter.
When her owner brought Fi home and isolated her, Fi responded well to her new owner, letting her pick her up and cuddle her, pet her, etc. Then after a few days Fi realized there was another cat in the home, and her behavior changed. She still let her owner pet her but would often hiss at her. After a very slow introduction period Fi continued to hiss at the resident kitty by the name of Sassy (who ignored Fi’s hissing), and because by then her owner had became very attached to Fi, officially adopted her.
Over the last few months sweet and docile Sassy is becoming less agile due to age, and Fi is becoming more domineering towards Sassy. Since Sassy is older and was the first kitty in the home, Fi’s owner has come to the sad but true realization that Fi would really prefer being a single pet with all of the attention showered on her, not on a competitor.
Fi is a great cat and her owner loves her very much. Her progress has been steady though at a slower pace. Fi now comes up asking for affection and cookies if Sassy is not around and will let her owner pet her. Her owner will occasionally put Fi on her lap and give her some loving. Her owner truly believes that in a home without another pet, that Fi will become a very loving, affectionate and really playful cat. Who can resist such a sweet face and who wouldn’t be delighted and amused by the poses she strikes?
