Here’s Dulce, other wise known as Dulcinea . She is Dazzle’s daughter and was originally known as “Be Dazzled.” (See Dazzle’s bio on this page also). Dulce’s coat is a darker brown than her cinnamon colored mother so they are easy to tell apart. However you can see their resemblance in their faces and tails especially. You can also see it in their plumpness. Happily they also both love to chase feathers so their new family will have some great playtimes with them as they do their exercises. Yes we have them on weight loss dry food and they like it. They also eat wet.

We know quite a lot of Dulce’s story. A California breeder bought her mother, Dazzle, as a baby kitten from a Florida breeder. We know she cost a small fortune – we have the paperwork. The California breeder registered Dazzle with The Cat Fancy Association. She was bred and Be Dazzled aka Dulcinea is one of her babies. Dazzle was sold in 2014. The following year her daughter, Dulcinea, was sold to the same man who bought her mother. A couple weeks ago he took his two Bengals to a shelter saying, with no explanation, that he could no longer care for them. The shelter called me.

Dulce is somewhat shyer than her mom but after a week of mostly hiding she is coming out more and more to play with us. She is a play monster with feathers and it is great fun to watch the two of them chase the same toy. We can pet Dulce but she does not really relax into it yet and will pull away. I think she has some bad memory of humans. She does come out now to greet us however and is settling in sooner than we originally expected. She will be fine as she transitions to a new life but it will take a little time. Her new family needs to be willing to be patient and not push her as she opens up to trust them. These two bonded cats must go home together. No exceptions.

I expect Dulce and Dazzle have been around other cats at the breeder’s home. I don’t know if these kitties have ever been around dogs. They need a solid, stable home full of love and humans who are interested in having two very intelligent, active, athletes as companions. Bengals need interesting and challenging environments; they are not sleep-on-the -couch kind of cats. If their new family could put up an outdoor very safe and secured catio as some Bengal owners do they would greatly enjoy that.

Bengals will most likely go out an open door if they have the opportunity. Unlike most cats they then wander far away from their home and often do not ever get back. A surprising number of Bengals show up in shelters. Bengals are not good cats for families who have young children precisely because of the danger that those well meaning kids will let them get out. If Dulce and Dazzle got out someone would pick them up and take them home with them. Or put them on Craig’s List . That happens too. Their new family must be careful. Yes, they are microchipped.

I like to say that for more than most cat breeds Bengals are really a life style choice. They need families who enjoy the responsibility and, in some sense, the challenge of keeping these smart athletes safe and entertained indoors. Their exotic nature and their loyal companionship are a privilege and a great pleasure for the right lucky family .

Dulce eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
