About Cooper
Born ~12/2021, M, Classic Tabby and White Maine Coon Mix
Adoption Fee: $175
Some cat lovers just can’t resist really big cats. They revel in the long legs, the heavy, solid body, the big armful of cat. Lots of these big kitties are all, or part, Maine Coons.
Cooper is just a teenager but he shows he is one of these kitties. We think he is about 10-11 months old and already he is 13 pounds. He clearly has some Maine Coon heritage. These cats start with long bodies with long legs and long tails as he has. They continue growing in size well into their third year as their bodies fill out giving them their final majestic stature.
I don’t know much of Cooper’s history except a cat lover’s sister’s neighbor moved and left him behind. This boy is very much a teenager. He is not entirely sure what the world is like and perhaps, having been abandoned, he is a little uncertain. He loves humans and is very affectionate. We have had him since Oct 14 and we have all fallen in love with him.
I am guessing that while he was left outside he had some run ins with local tomcats interested in the same sweet girl kitties he was sniffing around. Young unneutered kitties get hurt in the inevitable fights with bigger and more experienced local cats. This may be why Cooper does not like other cats. He has strong feelings about this and, while this may change as he matures, for right now he needs to be the only cat in his new home. I don’t know how he feels about dogs.
This big boy needs a home with fairly cat sophisticated humans. Cooper is a lot of cat and full of energy and curiosity. He may get lazy in five years but he is not a sleep on the couch cat yet. People love him because he is so fun and affectionate, but that does not mean he couldn’t disgrace himself if he were startled or treated roughly. Think of him as a teenage kid who still needs to learn about life and grow up. It won’t take him long but he needs an understanding family who can guide him a bit. We have seen him hiss and show his displeasure ( especially when he sees another cat)- that is the extent of his acting out.He has already mellowed the time we have had him.
My guess is Cooper has had a less than an ideal first home. He is a gorgeous, sweet boy who needs an experienced cat family, or maybe a cat dad, to watch over him as he grows. I would not suggest that he go to a family with young children or anyone frail or unsteady on his or her feet. He will probably easily grow to weigh over 18 pounds.Cooper is neutered, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect.
He is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
