Sometimes you see a cat and realize there is something unique or special about her, and that is what happened when we found Cersei. With her stunning blue eyes and lovely tortoiseshell coat, she didn’t fit into any recognizable purebred type, but one of our members recalled seeing a similar cat, so we researched what breed of cat this special girl might be. Turns out there is a very rare cat called an Ojos Azules, Spanish for blue eyes, discovered in New Mexico in 1984. The breed was founded with a tortoiseshell (just like Cersei!) named Cornflower.
This girl is a sweet companion who would like to help you with everything you do. She will sit with you while you read or watch television and wants to sleep with you in bed at night. She will contentedly sit in a sunny window and watch the birds, as long as you are nearby. If you are sitting in a recliner, she will head-butt your feet a few times before she jumps up to settle down next to you. She doesn’t seem to mind being picked up, and she will settle in the crook of your arm and purr, reaching up with one paw to touch your nose.
Cersei is very playful. She will bat around her crinkle toys and ping pong balls, but her favorites are a light wand and pouncing on shadows. When she’s on the floor you can roll her over on her back and gently bat at her paws, and she will pretend to be a fierce cat and swat at your hands.
It may take her a while to warm up and trust you, but once she does, she will be your constant companion. She needs to be in a calm environment with people who are home a lot, and she would like the run of the house. (In her foster home she is an upstairs cat due to the downstairs dog.) She needs the reassurance of your presence and attention. She will speak up to remind you of breakfast and dinner time, but is otherwise not very chatty, although she will purr with contentment when she can sit by your side. She would love to be the only cat in a male household, and definitely prefers her foster father to her foster mother.
Cersei has some medical issues, chief of which is a food allergy, and she will need to continue to be on a prescription diet (currently Royal Canin Hydrolized Protein). She has a healthy appetite—since switching her diet she has not had problems—but she would benefit from losing some weight. She tends to groom excessively, perhaps a reaction to being separated from her people, and we hope that unrestricted contact with her new owners will eliminate that problem.
Cersei is spayed, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats dry food, and is litterbox perfect.
She currently lives with her foster family in Aptos.
Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pet and create an ideal forever home.
If you believe you are the perfect adopter for Cersei please tell us why in the comments section of our Adoption Application, and contact Gale at firstname.lastname@example.org or 831-662-1347. If you are unable to reach Gale please email us at email@example.com.
NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
