Born ~2014, M, Cream & Red Turkish Angora
Look at Blue’s eyes. I have never seen such slanted, almond shaped, bedroom eyes on a kitty. They are actually a beautiful deep blue but it is often hard to see their color unless he is in direct sunlight. Blue has the long slender body and magnificent tail of a Turkish Angora cat .His fur is soft cream plush accented with red on the head and tail. He is a very beautiful cat.
I think he was owner surrendered to the shelter though his paperwork said “Stray Over the Counter”. A separate sheet that came with him said “His name was Blue. He had never been around dogs. He was fine with older children. He had always been an inside cat. He was shy with strangers. He was neutered and had lived with two adult cats. I might note there is a shelter fee to owner surrender a cat.
Something really traumatic had happened to Blue. Maybe being abandoned by his human was traumatic enough. When we took him into foster he was close to catatonic. We gave him a teepee and he stayed in it looking out the door, not moving, for close to 5 months. He would eat and use his box at night when we weren’t around. We talked to him because he did not want to be touched. He was so sad and quiet. We wondered if he had been named Blue because he was so blue. He was the same day after day after day. So many days.
Time does heal and ultimately we were able to pet him a little. One of his caretakers became his special friend and he could pet him the most. He clearly was best friends with all cats and we let him roam to socialize with other house cats and fosters. He was a fleeting image slipping away through a door, avoiding us. Ultimately he evolved to following his favorite human around…which is a classic Turkish Angora trait (as are almond shaped eyes). He became a shoulder cat with his human friend. (Unfortunately this man could not take him home). He got friendlier and friendlier with us. When I saw that he was going up to strangers to say hello and solicit pets it seemed like it was time to write a bio and let him go home. He is now a darling, friendly cat.
Blue needs someone with a big heart full of love, someone who will be there for him forever. I would like to send him home to a house with other friendly kitties since he loves them so. Blue needs a stable home with no crying youngsters or blaring adolescent music. A quiet safe home. He has never been around dogs so it might be best to not have them in his new home though he is such a cat lover maybe he would love them too. I don’t know the answer to that. But let’s make everything easy for him.
You can see what a gentle baby cat he is. He is as gentle as his coloring, such a sweet treasure he is. Some family will be so lucky to have his companionship.
Blue eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.
His foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
