About Alexander the Grape

Adopted by Robert and Dino

Look how long this boy is. Alexander has the classic lines of a young Maine Coon kitten. His tail is already outrageously long. His body is long, his legs are long and his muzzle is long also. Maine Coons keep growing physically for their first three years. Their long slender bodies thicken side to side as they achieve their final weight. I am happy to see he is developing his ear tuffs, always a favorite look of mine. His medium-length hair is very shiny and does not appear solid black in the photos but that is just a trick of the light reflecting off his fur.

He arrived from a shelter very skinny, all legs and tail, no round tummy. He was in immediate danger of euthanasia because the shelter said he had lice. We never saw lice on him but knew Revolution flea medication easily takes care of it and we kept him isolated until he was thru his treatment. Since then he has grown and grown. And what a nice boy he is. He is a confident fellow and very good-natured. Of course, he is curious and very much a playful kitten. Alex is comfortable with humans and enjoys being held. Look how relaxed he is on a shoulder. He is comfortable with other cats also. He and Raisin, who arrived about the same time, were housed together when his isolation was done. He was very glad to have kitten company. He turned six months on 10/1 and doesn’t he look BIG! I expect he will be a very big kitty.

As to his unusual name, the foster mom (not me) who named Raisin decided if he was Alexander he had to be Alexander the Grape. There is some logic in there somewhere. I know better than to argue.

Alex the Grape is a very nice guy and will be a loving, entertaining companion for some lucky family. I don’t know how he is with dogs but he would probably be fine with the right introduction. Maine Coons are known for being good family cats. They handle noise and commotion better than many breeds.

Alex eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

Alexander the Grape is neutered, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, and microchipped.

He is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz.

NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone’s best interests!
